After the excitement of the NEOWISE Comet, August brings us a meteor shower encore. Most notably, the Perseid Meteor Shower will be at its peak during the early mornings of August 11th – 13th, but will be viewable for the week before and after. That’s not all! August is packed with great astrophotography opportunities.

This month is full of meteor showers and even another lunar eclipse! We appear to be in eclipse season as we add another one to last month’s two. On July 5th, the full moon will enter a penumbral lunar eclipse. The Earth will be at Aphelion to celebrate Independence day on the 4th of July. There’s much more phenomena to discover in the night skies in July 2020.

SpaceX Crew Dragon to Launch on Wednesday
The first manned, commercial spaceship will be launched on Tuesday from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in a joint effort from NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The Crew Dragon capsule will then rendezvous with the International Space Station, the first American manned space fight since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011.
