Are you ready for the start of Summer? First, the far northern portions of the United States will be treated with a Annular Solar Eclipse. Then, Summer Solstice brings in warm weather to the northern hemisphere on June 20th. The month finishes out strong with the Bootes Meteor Shower, also visible from the northern hemisphere. In between there are plenty of opportunities for backyard astronomy.
During sunrise on June 10th, the northern and eastern parts of the United States will see a partial annular solar eclipse. The far north, including parts of Canada, Greenland, and Russia will be able to experience the full annular solar eclipse. NASA has a handy animation to show the eclipse’s path:
The Bootids Meteor Shower will radiate from the Bootes constellation. Bootes is located between the Big Dipper and Corona Borealis, the Northern Crown. Most people in the Northern Hemisphere will only need to lay down on the ground to watch! The best time will be after dark on June 27th.
