First Quarter Moon – After the first one-fourth of the length of the Moon’s cycle, it is at its First Quarter phase. It resides at a perpendicular plane in reference to the Sun and Earth, so the Sun only illuminates about half of the Moon’s surface as viewed from the Earth. The Moon now rises around noon and sets near midnight.
