Summer is finally here! Despite the hot weather in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth is close to the farthest point in its orbit from the Sun. The Earth’s axial tilt keeps up the summer heat. Although we are so far away, our planet are currently leaning towards the Sun and receiving the most direct energy – resulting in the most heat.
In addition to summer weather, we have three meteor showers at the end of the month! The Piscis Austrinid, Southern δ-Aquariid, and α-Capricornid Meteor Showers peak between July 29th and July 30th. These will be all visible in United States, especially after 11 PM EST. Piscis Austrinus is a constellation found close to Aquarius and Capricorn in the night sky.

All three of these meteor showers will have very closely clustered radiant points – point in the sky where the meteors appear, to an observer on Earth, to originate. It may actually be best to look around the radiant point than right at it. Or simply lay back and look up!
